On New Zealand’s rugged South Island lies Mahu Whenua against a backdrop of vast, jagged mountains. The sanctuary’s estate is made up of four sheep stations stretching 50 kilometres all the way to Queenstown, offering a truly private, luxurious escape.
Available for exclusive booking, this expansive wilderness paradise is perfect for really ‘ getting away from it all’. With exclusive-use bookings, you’ll be able to enjoy Mahu Whenua in complete privacy and accommodate up to 12 people with use of all five Ridgeline Suites, as well as the Komako Family Bunkroom. Mahu Whenua means “heal the land” in Maori. An apt name for a resort that prioritises the environment and inspires immersion in nature. Since 2005 the owners have planted more than one million native trees and shrubs, and native birds are returning to the land.
Exploring the estate on foot is a must, and those feeling a little more adventurous can discover the breathtaking landscapes on horseback, heli-biking and by four-wheel drive.
With exclusive-use stays you can enjoy all of the Homestead facilities in total privacy, including two fireplaces, a large open living area with expansive views and a fully equipped farmhouse kitchen. Inside the Homestead, there are also two dining areas, library, as well as plenty of storage. The lodge itself is run on solar power. Contemporary art on stone walls complements the huge windows framing ever-changing views of Lake Wanaka.
Outside, you’ll find several spots to unwind — two dining areas, a heated pool, sheltered swimming pool and large decking area to make the most of the incredible views and location.
All food and drink are included with your stay, including an extensive wine collection. Talented resident chefs make use of fresh, local produce in dishes such as native salmon with seared scallops or roast lamb. When night falls, settle in with a glass and toast to the spectacular wilderness that surrounds you.
