Forte Kochi

Strategically built in one of the oldest port cities in the world, Forte Kochi harks back to colonial India.

Strategically built in one of the oldest port cities in the world, Forte Kochi harks back to colonial India. The Portugese originally built the house before it was converted into a family mansion in the 1800s.

Today, guests will find this boutique hotel restored to its former glory with canary-yellow facades, wooden furniture and colourful patterned tiles. Rooms feature four-poster beds, soft wicker sofas and warm amber tones, as well as paintings depicting scenes of the early settlers.

There are plenty of scenic walks that start from the doorstep. Explore the Vasco de Gama square, known for centuries-old Chinese nets, and the golden sands of Mahatma Gandhi Beach, both a stroll away.

When you’re ready for downtime, relax by the courtyard swimming pool, a charming spot for a cocktail and a snooze in the sun. Or pick a book from the library and flick through with a coffee. If you feel like staying in, the restaurant dishes up fragrant Keralan curries and crab cakes.

Why we like it

  • Colonial style
  • Historical sweet spot
  • Scenic walks on the doorstep
  • Old-world charm and modern comfort
